Corkery Library Mission Statement and Policies
Library Mission Statement
The Corkery Library is an environment designed for students and teachers to utilize resources that enhance curriculum at each grade level and promote the love of books. To ensure the meeting of this goal, library classes are strategically structured with the following:
Circulation Policy
Book circulation starts at least three weeks from the first day of school. This is to give students time to learn the procedures and organization of the library. Book circulation ends at least three weeks before the last day of school. This is to give the librarian time to close the year’s records and collect lost book fees and overdue books.
Collection Policy
I. Books and other library resources should be provided for the interest, information, and enlightenment of all people of the community the library serves. Materials should not be excluded because of the origin, background, or views of those contributing to their creation.
II. Libraries should provide materials and information presenting all points of view on current and historical issues. Materials should not be proscribed or removed because of partisan or doctrinal disapproval.

- Instruction on how to use and locate reference materials
- Training on databases and website relevance
- Exposure to a gamete of genres and authors through reading and being read to.
- Responding to books as a form of art, information resources, literary devices, and entertainment through writing and/or oration.
